Cookie Sync

discussion of what cookie sync is and what the benefits are

Updated over a week ago

Cookie Sync is a historical feature to help clients manage logins for users of their Identities. We now recommend using our Password Manager integration instead.

Introduction

Cookie sync is a feature intended to simplify account sharing among all the users of a single Identity. When cookie sync is on, if one person using an Identity logs into a website, all users of that Identity will also be logged into that website - regardless of which computer they are on.

There are a few important points to understand:

  1. For any website you log into, all users of that Identity will also be logged in.

  2. If any of the users of that Identity get logged out of the website for any reason, all users of that Identity will be logged out of the website.

Point #2 above can cause significant confusion as there are a number of reasons why a user may be logged out of a website. It becomes very confusing when users are repeatedly logged out of a website and don't understand why. For this reason we recommend using our Password Manager integration instead.

Enabling / Disabling Cookie Sync

To enable cookie sync, go to the account management portal and select the "Identities" tab on the left sidebar:

Then select the little gear icon on the top right of the Identity card:

Turn on/off the "Sync Cookies Slider", and click "Save".
